Teens won't have to decide whether to get home safely or get into trouble now that anxious parents can provide TaxiMiles cheques, vouchers accepted by most major cab companies.
"I tried to find a mechanism that would provide a safe way home for both children and seniors," says Michael Roncon, president and CEO of TaxiMiles Inc.
He believes incidents of impaired driving would drop if people had an easier way to take a cab.
The Toronto-based company launched in January and is now partnered with taxi companies in 18 cities across Canada, including Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Guelph and Hamilton.
The chits are sold in $5 denominations in books of $50, $100 and $250 at http://www.taximiles.com , and Mr. Roncon is working to have them sold at restaurants, bars and retailers.
Participating taxi companies include: Beck, Co-Op, Diamond, Kingsboro and Maple Leaf.
To order a cab that accepts the cheques, call 310-TAXI (no area code) and tell the dispatcher you will be using TaxiMiles.
