BRAMPTON, ON, Aug. 5 /CNW/ - Peel Regional Police are warning the public
and taxi-cab companies to be vigilant, after several taxi cab drivers have
been robbed over the last few days.
Within the last 24 hours, three taxi cab drivers have been robbed of
their money, two at gun point. Yesterday, shortly before 6:00 a.m., a
35-year-old Brampton 'Kwik Cab' driver was dispatched to attend Fairglen
Avenue to pick-up a fare. Upon his arrival, he was met by a male armed with a
handgun and two other suspects who robbed him of his wallet, cell phone and
pager.
Earlier this morning at 3:00 a.m., a 43-year-old 'Bram City' Taxi driver
was dispatched to attend Harradine Crescent in Brampton. Upon his arrival he
was met by three suspects, one armed with a handgun, and was robbed of his
wallet and cell phone.
Then at 5:15 a.m. a 39-year-old Mississauga 'Blue & White' Taxi Driver
was robbed of his money after dropping off a fare at the High Point Mall
located at Bloor Street and Dixie Road. During these three incidents, the
drivers were not physically injured.
In most recent cases, the taxi driver is lured to a residence to pick-up
a fare and is robbed upon arrival. Police are reminding everyone to be
