Drinking Driver causes Serious Personal Injury Accident
On Monday, May 31st, 2004 at approximately 2:49 p.m. a 34 year old male was driving a 2001 Ford Van eastbound on King Street West approaching Dowling Avenue when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and drove directly into the rear of a parked pick-up truck.
The pick-up truck was hit with such velocity that the rear “cap” of it detached and flew off and struck a 28 year old pedestrian engaged in unloading furniture from it. This pedestrian was transported to St. Michael’s Regional Trauma Centre with head injuries and is currently listed in grave condition.
A 65 year old male seated behind the wheel of the parked pick-up truck was also injured and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to be pushed into a parked U-Haul Van, which in turn was pushed into another vehicle parked behind it.
The driver of the Ford Van did not receive any injuries.
Andrzej SZCZEPANIEC, 34 years old of Toronto, Ontario is charged with:
- 2 counts of Impaired Driving causing bodily harm
- Drive Over 80 milligrams of alcohol
