Rule #1. DON'T DRIVE! Don't make any unnecessary trips.
Rule #2. GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME.
Rule #3. TAKE THE TIME TO PROPERLY CLEAR OFF YOUR VEHICLE. Make sure to clear ice and snow from all windows, lights, mirrors and roof.
Rule #4. MAKE SURE YOUR WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID IS TOPPED UP BEFORE GOING OUT ON THE ROADS.
Rule #5. HAVE YOUR CELLPHONE CHARGED AND READY TO GO IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.
Rule #6. LEAVE SOME SPACE – IT'S NOT A RACE!
Rule #7. UNDERSTAND YOUR VEHICLE'S LIMITATIONS. Four by four vehicles are excellent at accelerating in snowy conditions but they can't stop any quicker. Remember a vehicle travelling at 50 km/h on snowy road conditions requires over 6 car lengths to come to a complete stop. That same vehicle travelling in snowy conditions at 100km/h requires over 26 car lengths to come to a complete stop.
Rule #8. AVOID SUDDEN TURNS, ACCELERATING OR BRAKING.
Rule #9. THINK POSITIVE BUT DRESS FOR SUCCESS. Just in case you run into some problems, make sure you are dressed for the cold winter conditions.
Rule #10. ARRIVE ALIVE! The whole goal is to arrive home safely at the end of the day.
